What to discuss
Start with your plans
You may not be ready for pregnancy, may be balancing work and family plans, or may face treatment that could affect fertility. Discuss your age, health and preferred timing. If cancer treatment is planned, coordinate promptly with your existing team rather than postponing treatment yourself.
AMH and tests before egg collection
AMH and antral follicle count help estimate ovarian reserve and response to stimulation; they are not scores for egg quality. Assessment may include ultrasound, relevant hormone and infection tests, and anesthesia safety. Baseline FSH and estradiol may be scheduled early in the cycle. Confirm timing and fasting instructions for each test.
The egg freezing process
Consultation is followed by ovarian stimulation, ultrasound and blood-test monitoring, the final maturation injection, egg collection, assessment and freezing of mature eggs, and recovery follow-up. Medication doses, treatment length and injection and collection times are individual; do not adjust them yourself. Contact the team promptly for worsening bloating or pain, repeated vomiting, markedly reduced urine, fever or abnormal bleeding after collection. Breathing difficulty, chest pain, fainting or severe abdominal pain require immediate medical care.
Preparing for sperm freezing
The team reviews medical history, recent fever and medicines, with semen analysis and necessary infection screening. Confirm the abstinence period, container, collection location and delivery deadline. Report any lost sample or collection difficulty. Do not use ordinary lubricants or condoms unless approved by the laboratory.
How embryo freezing differs
Eggs are frozen before fertilization; embryos are frozen after fertilization and culture. Embryo freezing therefore also involves sperm assessment and discussion of the fertilization method. Future use requires renewed health and eligibility checks. Ask separately about medicines, collection, anesthesia, freezing, storage and future thawing or treatment fees. The clinic confirms eligibility and consent under applicable Taiwanese requirements.
